There is help available with maintaining property for homeowners who would like to continue to live independently and safely in their own homes.

Aster Living Care & Repair (Swindon)

Aster Living Care & Repair (Swindon) is a locally based independent and confidential not for profit service. They are funded by NHS Swindon and the Swindon Borough Council. Their aim is to help those who are:

• Disabled of any age
• Over 60 or vulnerable
• Living in the Swindon area
• Home owners or private tenants (HandiHelp available for Council property for some items - see below)

Aster Living Care & Repair can arrange a home visit to discuss your needs, answer any questions and determine how they can best help. This may be help in identifying repairs or improvements to the home or help with applying for grant or charitable funding to pay for repair works and benefits advice.

Aster Living Care & Repair can organise repairs or adaptation works such as Level Access Showers or Stairlifts funded privately for a small fee. Aster Living Care & Repair are experienced in this type of work and will obtain quotes on your behalf from reputable contractors and oversee the works to ensue you are happy.

Assistive Living - HandiHelp - making your home safe and warmer

We can help with small home repairs and maintenance jobs for those who are over 60, or have a disability or are a benefits recipient.

The HandiHelp service helps people keep their independence and live in warm and safe homes. We do things like electrical work, plumbing and drainage, home security, clearing rooms and lofts and organising home moves. And we can make homes warmer by fitting boiler jackets or draught excluders. We can also help with other small jobs such as putting up curtains, shelves and pictures, or re-hanging doors or tiling small areas.

We can also fit key safes. A key safe can be fitted outside a property so you can store keys that can be used by care staff, family and friends who visit regularly. Most of our work has a 12 month guarantee.

Improving your quality of life - making small changes or repairs can help make homes safer and warmer, or simply more comfortable to live in. This can reduce the risk of health problems or accidents.

Our HandiHelp technicians are reliable, trustworthy and highly trained. They can take away the worry of organising small but essential jobs. HandiHelp encourages people to tackle those smally jobs they may have been putting off.

We might be able to help with the cost because some local authorities give us money to help people on low incomes or disability benefits. All you need to do is cover the cost of materials.
